Project background: The project is located on the border of Guinea and Mali, next to the Sankarani river.Sankarani river is a tributary of the Niger river that originates from Fouta Djallon in Guinea, runs through southern Mali and flows into the Niger river in Bamako.The local government and people strongly protest against the use of highly toxic sodium cyanide in the Sankarani river basin, because of the serious damage to the ecological environment of the Sankarani river.
